Wrapping Paper
A wrapping paper is a packing paper to cover expensive and valuable items such as crystal or chinaware to protect from dust.
Cartons
Cartons are cardboard moving boxes that are used for packing items and are available in various shapes and sizes such as small, medium and large boxes.
Wardrobe Boxes
Boxes with bars to store clothes in order.
Dish Pack Boxes
Boxes with interior cell divider partitions to pack small dishes.
Mirror/Picture Boxes
These are flat big boxes that slide together to pack mirrors or pictures.
China Barrel
These are thick cartons used to pack china, lamps, dishes, glassware and other fragile items.
Mattress Bag
These are available in all sizes that can fit any mattress and box spring type.
Sealing Tape
An adhesive tape made of plastic with 1.5 to 2inches width is used for packing materials.
Permanent Marker
The markers are used to label the contents of the packed boxes for an easy identification.
Remember the Tips
The packing boxes can be collected in advance. These boxes can be stored by opening both the ends and flattening. The boxes can be reused for packing just by opening.
Pack the household goods in a logical fashion, room-by-room and label the packages to make unpacking process easy.
Packing the goods can be preplanned depending on unused goods.
The customer can plan for collecting cartons that are not provided by the mover such as wardrobe, mattress and other cartons.
Use small cartons to pack heavy items such as CDs, books and others.
The medium boxes are used to pack mid-size, mid-weight goods such as non-perishable food articles, pans, pots, shoes and clothing.
The large boxes are used for packing lampshades, towels, toys, linen, bedding and others.
The oil from any tools or machinery must be drained out while transporting the tools.
Pack the valuable pictures or paintings using bubble wrap.
Lamp shades must be packed separately by padding the carton with plenty of wadded packing paper.
Use original cartons and packing material that come with electronic goods to pack the electronic equipment such as computers.
The electrical appliances such as dryers, washers and refrigerators need special care to ensure safe move.
Do not forget to wrap the furniture with blankets.
Mark “FRAGILE” on all sides of the carton if the cartons are filled with fragile items.
Packing Flatware
Place the plate in the center of the packing paper.
Grasp two sheets of paper at one corner.
Pull over the plate to cover the plate.
Stack second plate on the first.
Take remaining two corners, one at a time and fold each over your stack of plates.
Turn wrapped stack of plates upside down onto packing paper.
Re-wrap entire bundle and repeat the same procedure. Start with one corner of packing paper, and pull two sheets over the bundle; cover the bundle with next corner, then the third, and finally, the fourth.
Seal the bundle with plastic tape. Place the bundle of flatware in carton so that the bundle stands on an edge.
For all flatware, bread and butter dishes, saucers and others follow the same procedure. Small dishes such as saucers, bread and butter dishes can be stacked in greater quantity and can be bundled.
Packing Cups and Glasses
Cups and glasses are nested (one placed inside another) and then three or four are wrapped in a bundle. Tear a small sheet of paper and use these sheets between each glass/cup as protective lining.
Take first glass and line with a couple of sheets of torn paper.
Place second glass/cup inside the first one. Line with two more sheets of paper. Then insert another glass/cup.
Using your best judgment, nest three or four glasses/cups and lay these on the stack of wrapping paper in a diagonal manner, off center closer to your body.
Grasp corner closest to you of two sheets of wrapping paper. Wrap around your glasses/cups.
Repeat the procedure with remaining corners of wrapping paper. Then roll into a bundle. If you have collected some liquor cartons with dividers, then pack the glasses, cups and stemware in these boxes.
If your bundle does not fill to the top of the compartment, stuff additional wadded-up packing paper in the compartment to fill it up.
If you don't have liquor cartons then pack your glasses, cups and stemware in boxes alon g with other dishes if you find some space. Be sure these articles are placed towards the top of the carton.
Goblets and Stemware
Pack goblets and stemware separately. Do not attempt to nest them as you did with glasses. Repeat the same wrapping procedure as you did with glasses and cups.
Packing Small Kitchen Appliances
All small kitchen appliances (blender, toaster, can opener, coffee maker and others) are packed collectively into one or more cartons. These items are wrapped with packing paper separately and then are placed in a carton filled with wadded packing paper. The empty space in the carton can be used to place small items such as pans and pots.
Packing Pots and Pans
Pots and Pans can be nested together one inside the other by placing pieces of packing paper in the larger pan. Then these pans are wrapped with packing paper and placed in a carton.
Packing Tall Table Lamps
Dish pack cartons are tall and extra sturdy that best suit to pack all varieties of lamps.
Packing Pictures
Pictures are wrapped using bubble wrappers and are placed upright in the carton. If the packing is done by yourself then place an “X” of masking tape across the glass to protect the picture against damage. Place the picture above bundle of sheets with its face down. Then wrap the picture and seal it with tape. After placing the picture in the carton, place wadded packing paper above it.
Lamp Shades
Lamp Shades are nested together with clean packing paper placed in between each shade and are handled separately. Silk made lamp shades are also packed individually.
Hat and Shoe Boxes
These are small boxes that are consolidated and packed into large boxes. Small spaces in between are filled with wadded packing paper.
Toys
Toys are directly placed in large cartons and sealed.
Loose Shoes
Loose shoes are also placed directly in large cartons and sealed.
Aerosol Containers
The aerosol or flammable containers are not packed.
